Chronic pain sucks

I thought about so many eloquent titles for my first blog post to this site but in the end I realized that there is nothing eloquent about chronic pain.

Absolutely nothing.

In fact I have had to halt the process of starting this site for months now. And after my first two posts, I had to pause this whole process again. Now I know it’s not the end of the world and there are so many people in this world that are battling much worse. Knowing this is why I normally don’t like talking about my health. But apparently ‘not talking’ is ‘not healthy’. And neither is stress, lack of exercise, certain foods/ beverages, and a million other things that sound much more fun than talking.

So what do we do? We take medicine (a lot of medicine in some cases), muddle through a work week, try to stay out of bed long enough to visit with family on our days off, and hope we can eventually make plans that we don’t have to cancel at the last minute. And who do we turn to to vent, cry, or have a good laugh? If you’re lucky, you may have family or friends that you can turn to but unless they’re in the same boat, they may not understand. It was during one of these moments of thinking I was alone when I came across an interesting app.

“The Mighty” is a website and app that boasts being the world’s largest online health community. On this site you can find real stories written by people with firsthand experience in everything from mental health to chronic illness, rare diseases, disabilities, neurodiversity, to even parenting or caregiving. There are resources curated specifically for many conditions including but not limited to bipolar disorder, ADHD, autism, chronic pain, Rheumatoid arthritis, PTSD, Ehlers- Danilo’s syndrome, migraines, Borderline Personality Disorder,Fibromyalgia, Endometriosis, anxiety, depression, and suicide. All you need to do is download the app or go to the website and you can make your profile, find interesting groups or topics that interest you and your ready to go. Any time you need a break or have a question or even want to share some affirmations or good news this site is there for you with the goal of making a life with health issues maybe a little less lonely. Search for polls, articles, info, or something more cheerful (My personal favorite is the “Distract Me” group). You can contribute as much or as little as you choose with no pressure to ever do more. Oh yeah, and did I mention that it’s free?

If this sounds interesting or helpful then please check out www.themighty.com or download the app from the Apple Store or Google Play.
